USER CENTERED DESIGN

FIELD VISITS

I prefer conducting field visits to observe the user, while and where the task is being performed. This gives me the most accurate user data. After 3-4 field visits, the user Pain Points and Goals are determined using an Affinity Diagram.

USER PERSONAS

The next step is to create User personas based on the target users, with their Goals and Pain Points at their core. I bolster their character with information such as mind sets, affinity to tech and daily activities. Having multiple personas helps to know who I am designing for, through out the design process.

STORYBOARDS

It is important to flesh out the user journeys for each of the Goals identified to ensure the end to end viability of the solution. It helps me identify gaps in the interaction and plug them early in the design process. I use my super Pictionary skills to come up with complete user journeys.

PAPER PROTOTYPES

Lo-Fidelity paper prototypes are the best way to validate the solution with the end users. Paper prototypes communicates the flexibility of the design and the end users feel more inclined to give honest feedback than try to wrap their heads around a designed solution.

DESIGN - VALIDATE - REPEAT

Iteration is the name of the game. I take the prototype to the user, they give feedback, which is then taken back to the drawing board. Repeat this process till all the kinks are ironed out. I feel it is better to fail at this stage than provide a solution that doesn’t solve the problem
